Tuff leadership Training
About the course
The programme is designed to help participants find and distinguish a mindset
and a way of being as a leader that is more empowering, and practice new abilities.
To move from a traditional (automatic) parent-child dynamic
to an alternative (chosen) adult-adult dynamic.

"How can I be an effective, powerful leader
without being like a parent?"
How it works
Over this 4-day course, you'll discover what abilities leaders need today. You will learn about your leadership, and practice effective tools to deal with challenging work situations. And you will get plenty of feedback from the trainer and your peers.
Day 1: Alternative
leadership paradigm
Day 1 is all about an alternative leadership mindset that enables you to unleash responsibility and initiative in others:
- Introduction to an alternative leadership mindset
- A model and mindset for a coaching conversation
- Extensive practical training
Day 2: Empowering feedback
Usual feedback for the most part is disempowering (feeling criticised), and in many cases makes things worse. On day 2 we will practice:
- An alternative way of giving powerful, respectful feedback, that leads to development
- How to have courageous conversations
- Extensive practical training
3-week gap:
Home Assignment
After the first two days there is a 3-week gap during which you'll have home assignments like putting the conversations and tools you have learned into practice in your workplace.
Day 3: Create ownership and trust
On day 3 we will practice several new models:
- An alternative way of informing and talking about change
- How to catalyse motivation and "ownership" in another person
- How to have conversations that restore trust and efficiency in your relationships
Day 4: How to really
make a shift
More practice on day 4:
- How to coach so it really makes a difference
- Integrating all the conversations we've practiced, plus tools and the cornerstones of an alternative leadership mindset
- Practicing and getting coaching on real cases from participants
Coaching session (1 month later)
Included in the price is a 30-minute coaching conversation with a Tuff coach one month after you complete the course. It is a space to help you keep the course alive, formulate your progress and next steps, as well as answer any remaining questions.
Why us?
About Tuff approach
Tuff Leadership Training trains managers and employees in the mindset and abilities needed to lead in more involving ways. Since 2003, we have worked with hundreds of organisations all over the world.

We have developed our own, effective methods to rapidly train managers in becoming competent leaders with new leadership mindset.

Our methods are rooted in the experiments of our co-founder, Karin Tenelius who, from the 1990s onwards, transformed nearly a dozen companies into self-managing organisations through coaching the managers and teams to collaborate in a radically decentralised way.

"Tuff" means "tough" in Swedish. It is not because leadership is tough, but because the course itself is tough, and we'll put you through intense leadership training.
Be prepared: practical leadership training is much tougher than learning theory!
Reserve your spot!
The size of the group is small:
up to 12 people, to ensure every participant gets individual feedback. Don't delay your reservation, we might run out of free spots.
What our clients say
I would recommend Tuff Leadership Training to any company that aspires to be a modern, Agile organisation, and to all managers/leaders (formal as well as informal leaders).
Richard Kronfält

What I mostly appreciate about Tuff Leadership Training is their hands-on, practical training that makes a difference in behaviour immediately
Eva Lorentzon
Eva Lorentzon, formerly Learning & Development Specialist at Sony Mobile (now at King, also a Tuff customer)
Gives you a great perspective on what leadership is about, how you should position yourself in relation with your employees and colleagues and gives you concrete tools you can use to handle the difficult conversations we all need to have.
Horatiu Ticau
People Operations Specialist, Seedstars, Romania
In a non-hierarchical structure, for efficiency, cooperation and a good working environment, coaching is key. The decisions must come from the team and not from above. Tuff's courses help to implement coaching in the company in a very practical way.

It allows me to see my pitfalls in the communications. I was able to train things that I was missing. Now I feel myself as a better leader.

Its a really well-thought course. The content is at some point mind-blowing, because it's completely different from how I imagined it will be, but I am really grateful for what I've learned here.

Frequently asked questions
How is this course different from others?
Unlike some leadership courses, this one contains almost no theory. It's highly practical and most of the days will be spent practicing conversations and abilities, with plenty of feedback and coaching.

It also has a 1-month gap between training days, that allows space to put all new tools and abilities into practice, and come back with any remaining questions and for more training.
Is this course for new leaders or only experienced, senior leaders?
Leaders of all levels get value out of the training and we frequently have a mix of experience levels in our courses.
Will I receive individual feedback on the course?
The course is designed to maximize opportunities for each participant to get tailored feedback and coaching, if they want it. Our experienced Tuff trainers see your qualities and your pitfalls and can support you in identifying areas for development.
I have no "people management" responsibilities, is this course for me?
We frequently have participants attend who have no people management responsibilities – individual contributors, freelancers, Agile coaches and many others. They get a lot out of the training in terms of having difficult conversations with colleagues, feedback, communication, insights into their personal pitfalls, and much more.
English is not my first language, will this be a barrier for me?
Tuff leads courses all over the world and most of our open courses outside of Sweden involve groups of international participants for whom English is not their first language. The training is in English but it's possible to speak your native language when practicing in your small groups. In the Kyiv course, one of our trainers speaks Russian so will also be able to clarify certain concepts and give you feedback in one of those languages if it's preferable.
